Tigers Claw Past Spartans in Defensive Standoff at Ingalls Field

A dominant second-half surge powered the Ripon Tigers to a 16-6 home victory over the Laconia Spartans.

By Staff Reporter|Thursday, August 20, 2026
The atmosphere at Ingalls Field was electric on August 20 as the Ripon Tigers battled the Laconia Spartans in a defensive gridiron clash. Both teams traded blows in the first half, heading into the locker room deadlocked at 6-6 after a hard-fought opening two quarters. The Tigers relied on a heavy rushing attack led by Carter Bell, who pounded out 110 yards on 27 carries to keep the chains moving. The game turned in the third quarter when Ripon tightened their grip on both sides of the ball. Jackson Nelson provided the spark with a steady 10-of-15 passing performance, including a touchdown pass to Vincent Meenk, while Nelson also punched in a rushing score of his own. Mason Meenk anchored the defensive effort with a crucial interception, holding the Spartans scoreless in the second half to secure the 16-6 final result. Despite a valiant defensive stand from Laconia's Tillman Madigan and Drake Stigler, who each recorded 15 tackles, the Spartans could not overcome the Tigers' ground game. Nicholas Starbird led Laconia’s rushing effort with 63 yards, but the Tigers' defense proved too resilient for the visitors to respond. Ripon's balanced attack and disciplined play ultimately served as the difference-maker in this early-season contest. --- BOX SCORE Laconia Spartans 6 | Ripon Tigers 16 2nd Quarter: 6 — 6 3rd Quarter: — 10 Passing Leaders Ripon Tigers: Jackson Nelson (10/15 Cmp/Att, 78 Yds, 1 TD) Laconia Spartans: Asher Morgan (3/10 Cmp/Att, 46 Yds, 0 TD) Rushing Leaders Ripon Tigers: Carter Bell (27 Car, 110 Yds, 1 TD); Ayden Gustavus (17 Car, 71 Yds, 0 TD); Jackson Nelson (3 Car, 3 Yds, 1 TD) Laconia Spartans: Nicholas Starbird (15 Car, 63 Yds, 0 TD); Landon Schumacher (6 Car, 30 Yds, 1 TD); Paul Pontow (4 Car, 14 Yds, 0 TD); Asher Morgan (5 Car, -41 Yds, 0 TD) Receiving Leaders Ripon Tigers: Vincent Meenk (5 Rec, 39 Yds, 1 TD); Noah Michael (1 Rec, 34 Yds, 0 TD); Carter Bell (1 Rec, 6 Yds, 1 TD); Kyle Schlehein (3 Rec, -1 Yds, 0 TD) Laconia Spartans: Tillman Madigan (1 Rec, 37 Yds, 0 TD); Paul Pontow (1 Rec, 8 Yds, 0 TD); Nicholas Starbird (1 Rec, 1 Yds, 0 TD) Defensive Leaders Ripon Tigers: Logan Beahm (9 Tkl, 0 FF, 0 FR, 0 INT); Logan Stewart (6 Tkl, 0 FF, 0 FR, 0 INT); Vincent Meenk (5 Tkl, 0 FF, 0 FR, 0 INT); Kyle Schlehein (4 Tkl, 0 FF, 0 FR, 0 INT); Mason Meenk (4 Tkl, 0 FF, 0 FR, 1 INT) Laconia Spartans: Tillman Madigan (15 Tkl, 0 FF, 0 FR, 0 INT); Drake Stigler (15 Tkl, 0 FF, 0 FR, 0 INT); Paul Pontow (9 Tkl, 1 FF, 0 FR, 0 INT); Killian McCarthy (7 Tkl, 0 FF, 0 FR, 0 INT); Grady Vis (7 Tkl, 0 FF, 0 FR, 0 INT)
