The Laconia Spartans proved their resilience and skill in Berlin on Saturday, battling through a demanding slate of matches to capture the tournament title. After a mixed showing in pool play, where the team defeated Columbus and Amherst but suffered a tight three-set loss to Winneconne, the squad regrouped to secure the top seed.
Momentum shifted firmly in the team's favor during bracket play as the Spartans showcased their defensive prowess and offensive depth. They first navigated a gritty test against Little Chute, emerging victorious in two sets before turning their sights toward the championship clash.
In the final match against Campbellsport, the Spartans remained composed, closing out the tournament with a decisive 25-19, 25-20 victory to claim first place. The championship run was marked by stellar contributions across the board, notably from Kensley McCauley, who powered the offense with 47 kills, and Bailey Goebel, who anchored the playmaking effort with 52 assists.
The tournament served as a testament to the team's collective effort and endurance throughout a long day of competitive volleyball. With significant defensive efforts from Josie Basler, who tallied 46 digs, and a well-rounded display of serving and blocking from Finley Morgan and Addison Grade, Laconia left Berlin with hardware and a clear message for the rest of the season.
Finley Morgan also recorded career kill #500 on the day.
