The atmosphere was electric at Winnebago Lutheran Academy on August 21 as the home team clinched a heart-stopping 13-12 victory. Eli Muche proved to be the difference-maker, carrying the ball 19 times for 137 yards and both of his team's touchdowns. Quarterback Evan Cole effectively managed the offense, completing 8-of-15 passes for 78 yards to keep the chains moving throughout the evening. Owen Ehlke was the primary target in the passing game, hauling in four receptions for 33 yards to sustain key drives. Watertown Luther Prep pushed back hard behind a balanced effort from Jonas Meyer, who racked up 101 rushing yards and added a score of his own. Quarterback Levi Nottling kept the visitors within striking distance by throwing for 133 yards and a touchdown while connecting with Meyer three times for 44 receiving yards. Micah Schultz led the defensive front for the Phoenix, tallying six tackles as they fought to contain the persistent Winnebago rushing attack. Despite their persistent offensive pressure, the Luther Prep comeback effort fell just one point short against a resilient home defense. Cooper Schwalbe anchored the Winnebago Lutheran defensive unit with a stellar performance, recording 11 tackles and two tackles for loss to frustrate the opposing offense. His disruptive play in the backfield proved vital in protecting the slim lead during the closing minutes of the game. The narrow win serves as a testament to the team's composure under pressure as they start their season on a high note. Both squads displayed immense heart in this early season clash that came down to the very last play.
