The Mayville Cardinals opened their season with a commanding 23-0 performance on their home turf.

By Staff Reporter|Friday, August 21, 2026
The Mayville Cardinals made a statement on Thursday night, utilizing a punishing ground attack to dismantle Cedar Grove-Belgium. Running back Dominic Schuelke was the engine of the offense, carrying the ball 26 times for 137 yards and finding the end zone twice. Quarterback Joe Promersberger also contributed to the scoring surge, punching in a rushing touchdown while completing a 22-yard pass to Cooper Raddemann. Owen Mlsna provided reliable support for the Cardinals, tacking on a field goal and two extra points to solidify the lead. While Cedar Grove-Belgium’s Griffin Knight showed flashes of speed with 44 rushing yards, the visiting offense struggled to find rhythm against a stingy Mayville defense. Isaiah Gregor led the charge for the Cardinals, anchoring the unit with a game-high 10 tackles. Cedar Grove-Belgium’s Josh Anzia played valiantly on the other side of the ball, recording 12 tackles and a sack, but it was not enough to prevent the shutout. This decisive win gives Mayville significant momentum as they head into the next phase of their season schedule.
