Campbellsport Outlasts WLA in Defensive Struggle

Cougars defense holds strong in a low-scoring road victory over the Vikings.

By Staff Reporter|Friday, September 11, 2026
The Campbellsport Cougars secured a hard-fought 12-7 victory over the Winnebago Lutheran Academy Vikings Friday night at WLA. In a game dominated by defense, Campbellsport's ability to make key plays when it mattered most proved to be the difference. For WLA, the offense struggled to find consistent traction against the tough Cougars defense. Quarterback Evan Cole completed 6 of 17 passes for 35 yards, with his top target being Cooper Schwalbe who hauled in 3 receptions for 26 yards. The Vikings' lone touchdown came on the ground from Everert Skaer, who managed 57 rushing yards on 7 carries and found the end zone once. Defensively, Eli Muche was a force for the Vikings, recording a game-high 14 tackles. The Cougars found their scoring through a balanced attack. Cullan Flasch led the ground game with an impressive 99 rushing yards on 10 carries, including a touchdown. Jackson Straub connected on 2 of his 6 passes for 39 yards and a crucial touchdown pass to Levi Bentz, who also added a touchdown reception. Carter Gellings anchored the Campbellsport defense with 10 tackles and a tackle for loss, consistently disrupting the Vikings' offensive rhythm. Despite the effort from Skaer and the defensive intensity from Muche, WLA could not overcome the deficit. The Cougars' ability to control the clock and make timely stops on defense ultimately sealed their 5-point win on the road, spoiling the home opener for the Vikings.
